Experiential Demonstration of the Effectiveness of Metaphors

On the first international NAP congres for European registered therapists of divers modalities of Psychotherapy on
22 en 23 april 2006 organised by the NGVH (Netherlands Guild for Health Counselling and Psychotherapy)
workshop on Sunday 22th April from 10.00 till 12.30 hrs
This workshop centers on experiential exercises. A two-minute metaphor can produce immediate physical changes, demonstrating the mind/body connection. This demonstration of the effectiveness of the Metaphors can be use before the induction to produce surprise and positive expectation in clients and prepare them to accept the implicit message, while dispelling mistrust and internal rationalizing dialogue.

We can guide clients to provide material to construct the metaphor. We can increase tension to help the client to accept the underlying meaning.
The flexibility of metaphoric suggestion guides the client's unconscious mind to discover personal meaning. A good metaphor must have different interpretations, and should stimulate the client to make his own associations and do his own work.

Teresa Garcia is Founder and Director of The Instituto Erickson Madrid where she is the main former since 2000. Teresa Garcia had more than 1000 hours teaching Medical and Psychotherapist, doing life Ericksonian intervention demonstrations, theory explanation and group hypnotic inductions. She had created the single two years Ericksonian Hypnosis and Psychotherapy training in Spain with more than 80 every year.
She is Founder of the AEHE (Asociación Española de Hipnosis Ericksoniana) which belongs to the ESH (European Society of Hypnosis).
Since September 2005 she is the Chair of the EAHP (European Association of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy) which belongs to the EAP (European Association of Psychotherapy)
She has been honored being an Invited Faculty to present her personal work The IX Ericksonian Congress: 25º Milton Foundation Anniversary.

Formation
Teresa Garcia is “University Specialist in Psychology for individual and group therapy” and has a Master in psychotherapy at the Comillas University of Madrid. She has more than 700 classical hypnosis training and 800 in Ericksonian hypnosis and psychotherapy.

In 2003 by the T.V. Discovery Channel to do, for the program: “Contrasts” Chapter “Phobias” a life demonstration of a treatment with Psychotherapy and Ericksonian Hypnosis. The program interviewed the phobia patient some days after and she explained she had been cured. Since there she speaks in two radio programs and in two documentaries of Spanish TV.
